Please describe the activity and its context. How does it relate to solidarity and the European Solidarity Corps principles? What is the European added value of the activity?

Workshops are interactive classes developed and conducted by volunteers for the local youths on a given theme. The workshops are an activity for spreading knowledge and a participatory attitude. They provide a possibility to local young people to engage with the principles and values embodied by the ESC.

How have you identified the need for this activity? What are the societal challenges that you are planning to address?

The aim of the workshops is to present challenges, values and perspectives to a young audience and to invite them to reflect upon the said themes. The ultimate purpose is for them to contribute both with the skills acquired during the workshops and with their own creativity and agency.

What are the tasks that the volunteers will typically carry out? What will be their role and how will they be involved in the activities?

The volunteers present an idea to a partner organisation, and subsequently develop the program and content of the workshop. The workshops are then carried out by the volunteers, with the required support of mentors and coordinators. Volunteers ultimately take on the role of trainers and actively engage with the youth and the partner organisations.

How will the volunteers benefit from taking part in the activity?

Volunteers acquire experience in creating contents and in project planning and management. They also develop the skill of communicating both with other organisations and with a particular audience, understanding their needs and interests. It is also an opportunity to engage with the local community and to address specific topics.

How will the activity benefit the target groups and/or the local comm-unity and the organisations involved?

The local community, composed both of target groups and organisations, have an opportunity to learn about a given topic, engage with the volunteers volunteers and acquire tools. It is also a platform to share and discuss different perspectives and ideas.

If applicable, please also explain how you are planning to limit or prevent unintended negative effects of the activities and how you will comply with the ‘do no harm principle’

It is essential to be aware and respectful of each other's cultural background. For this reason, every workshop has to be tailored for the target audience. The possibility of misunderstanding due to different world views has to taken into account, therefore it is important to create a safe space for discussion.
